Hedgehogs are natural pest controllers – they feast on slugs, beetles, caterpillars and other insects that can damage plants and flowers. By encouraging hedgehogs into the garden, you’re helping to keep the ecosystem balanced, reduce the need for pesticides, and support biodiversity.
They’re also an important part of the local environment, reminding us how precious wildlife is even in the most remote corners of Scotland. If you’re lucky enough to have a hedgehog visit, you can make them feel at home with a shallow water dish, safe spaces to hide, and by avoiding slug pellets.
