Finding your way to Struthan Cottage on Tiree
The cottage is approximately 6 or 7 miles from the ferry terminal and around 2 miles from the airport. Finding it is easy. It should take you about 14 – 15 minutes from the ferry terminal.
It’s located in Kilmoluaig, PA77 6AX. (Note satnavs will not take you to this destination for some reason!)
However, directions to the cottage are easy!
Head right at T junction at the end of the Scarnish pier road, out of Scarinish and towards Balephetrish. (Don’t be confused about this, as it intially appears as though you’re heading in the opposite direction!) You’ll be heading towards the start of Gott bay. Follow the road around , keeping left at the pink house crossing over the middle of the island towards Balephetrish. Go past Balephetrish beach on your right hand side and straight on at the T junction heading towards Cornaig and Balevulin. Continue on for a couple of miles, going straight on at all times, heading through another crossroads and past the hostel and the old mill and “The Green”.
You’ll see Loch Bassapol on your left hand side as you go past the Green. Loch Bassapol is the wind surfing loch. As a marker, you’ll see Ben Hough (the hill with the radio mast) directly ahead of you in the distance. Keep going past the loch and shortly after , take the first left at the bungalow with the reddish brown timber fence all around (pictured). It is signposted for Kilmoluaig. This is the only way in and out towards Struthan Cottage. Continue up the small road, past the bird hide on your left and almost immediately take first left at the small crossroads with the telegraph pole.
About quarter mile on, past 2 large houses on your right and the loch now on your left, is Struthan Cottage! We’re on the right hand side (at the bend in the road past the big house with the conservatory.) There’s plenty of off road space to park. Struthan cottage looks like the picture below when you approach from the road. Note, the signplate on the house says “Struthan Cottage”. Free Parking for 2 vehicles is available at the front of the cottage.
