Those regular guests to Struthan Cottage will be familiar with the imported 10 year old palm tree in the garden. Well, this summer, the top split into 4 new branches, as the tree gets to its full height. It seems to be flourishing in a relatively protected area in full sunlight, and we think adds to the holiday feeling for guests.
This year, we’ve taken one of those top branches and planted it, hopefully the start of another tree. Visitors to Tiree will understand there’s not many trees on this windswept, flat island so when one is flourishing, it’s a cause to smile and nurture.
Who knows, perhaps in a few years, there will be several palms around Struthan Cottage?!
