In 1950s Glasgow, gang violence was prevalent, particularly in the Gorbals. Three boys, “Cheese,” “Lindy,” and “Sparrow,” were caught with razors and placed under the guidance of Mr. Sam Ritchie. After seven years of reform on the Isle of Tiree, they expressed gratitude in a letter, mentioning plans to hunt hares for a coat for Mrs. Ritchie.
Tiree contributed to the war effort by raising funds for RAF Spitfire repairs, notably through a bring and buy sale at Ruaig School that collected £14. The islanders’ support was crucial in 1941, following the Battle of Britain, as the RAF needed to replenish its fleet against the Luftwaffe.
Annie MacIntyre, former housekeeper to Lady Frances Balfour, passed away in December 1958, leaving a profound impact on her family and friends. Having served the family for over 50 years, she was known for her hospitality and care. Her legacy, deeply rooted in the Campbell family, will be cherished and remembered.
