It’s gone! This week’s cottage garden tidy-up included tackling a stubborn, leaky rainwater barrel which has been needing attention for ages! This was a task we’ve put off for 18 years! At the back of the cottage, there was a leaning old rainwater barrel. Filled with concrete and stone, it was a tonne weight and difficult even for 2 people to attempt moving it. The weight from the stone meant it leaned to one side and even by our admission was not functional and generally a little unsightly. Every maintenance visit, it’s on our list and we never get to it!
This time was the exception! Dug it out of the ground, hauled out all the rocks hiding inside, and FINALLY took it to the tip.
It’s amazing how much neater the back garden feels without it cluttering the space, ready for a fresh start for our guests and giving us ideas about a westerly facing patio area to watch the sunsets.
We won’t embarrass ourselves by telling you how many hours this took. Hard work, but worth it!
