Isle of Tiree’s First Legal Single Malt Whisky in 200 Years

Tiree distillery has recently unveiled the first legally produced single malt whisky from the Isle of Tiree in over 200 years.

The Isle of Tiree Distillery, one of Scotland’s smallest whisky distilleries was founded in 2012 by traditional folk musicians Alain Campbell and Ian Smith. The distillery is dedicated to preserving and celebrating Tiree’s whisky heritage while reviving the craft of distilling on the island.

Historically known as Tìr an Eòrna, meaning “Land of Barley,” Tiree was once home to around fifty illicit distilleries before the 19th century.
