More interior maintenance at the cottage today as we continue our springtime visit, ahead of opening for the season. Today, the wood burning stoves and fireplaces each got an overhaul. The larger one in the kitchen (pictured) and one in the living room. Blackened up with high temperature paint, they look as good as new. Deep cleaning inside and around and under the stove areas and painting fresh grey tile paint into the recesses. We’ve been whitewashing interior walls today too.
With rising energy costs, and our heating on timers the stoves are a great way to add additional heat to the cottage. The smallest of fires, soon has the entire open plan cottage warm on these cold nights, (which are nearing warmer times!). Wood, kindling and coal can be bought at the Co-Op and various places on the island. We leave a small stock of fuel for the stoves for each guest.
