Additional Cold Weather Payments of £25 a week are made by the government when the temperature drops to zero or is forecast to drop to zero for seven consecutive days. With the low temperatures continuing due to snow and ice, the amount being paid out is likely to rise. 85 of the 82 weather stations used to monitor temperatures have now indicated that payments should be made, so almost all of the United Kingdom now qualifies for the Payments.
The three stations which so far have not indicated low enough temperatures are Stornoway, Tiree, and the Scillly Isles.
