A few weeks back you may remember an RAF torando crashing in Argyll. The pilot who died, had connections to Tiree. Prayers were offered at Kirkapol church on Sunday for the relatives of Flt Lt Kenneth Thompson who was killed when his tornado jet fighter plane crashed into a hillside on the mainland.
Kenneth 27, owned a house at Pier View, and often flew with friends to the island in his own plane from his home in Glasgow. His mother is part owner of the Scarnish hotel. The Rev Bob Higham told the congregation that the death of Kenneth, was an “almost unspeakable tragedy”. Kenneth was passionate about flying, he loved life and Tiree. An investigation is ongoing to try to establish the cause of the crash.
