The annual Tiree Regatta was originally scheduled for 1st August but the weather was having none of it! With very strong winds and driving rain the committee took the decision to postpone the event. With the 7 day forecast looking good, the event was to try again the following week.
Saturday 8th came with more rain but as conditions improved the Regatta took place, albeit late at 2pm. The sailing boats left the sanctuary of Scarinish harbour and the rain came down just as they lined up at the start line. Undaunted, the fleet gathered and the race was underway. Sea conditions were unkind to all. With a display of excellent seamanship, “Catadh Mara” with Angus MacLean at the helm and Duncan MacLean won the day.
The shore events were a little dampened too with the pillow fights proving to be a slug-fest in the rain. The raft race took place amongst rumours of sabotage! Needless to say with the rain on, the nearby Scarinish Hotel pub was aboslutely heaving! Well done to everybody who took part and especially to those who won. See you in 2010!
