Some of the biggest names from Scotland and Ireland’s traditional music scene including Sandi Thom, Skerryvore and Crooked Reel are set to rock residents on the western isles at the first ever Tiree Music Festival on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 July, thats this coming weekend!

Celebrating the best of celtic music, the Tiree Music Festival is a two-day open air event suitable for all ages. As well as an array of celtic music artists, the festival will include interactive workshops, a children’s ceilidh, whisky tasting, BBQs amongst many other activities and events – all of which will take place on the grounds of An Talla, Tiree’s community hall. The brainchild of Skerryvore musician Daniel Gillespie, the Tiree Music Festival promises to be a key event in Tiree’s cultural calendar. Daniel says: “From touring with Skerryvore to various festivals I was always thinking it would be amazing if Tiree had a festival of its own – so I am extremely excited about the first ever TMF!

“To capture an International act such as Sandi Thom for our debut festival is fantastic and we hope that this year’s event will help build the foundations to allow TMF to be an annual success for Tiree and the community.”

Critically-acclaimed Banffshire-born musician Sandi Thom – famed for the hit song I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker – is amongst an array of artists set to make their way to Tiree for the summer festival. Other acts confirmed include Tiree bands Skerryvore, Skippinish, Gunna Sound, Trail West as well as Fortunate Sons, Torridon and Crooked Reel. And the weekend’s music celebration will come to a spectacular end with a not-to-be-missed performance by The Tiree All Star Ceilidh Band which will bring together generations of the island’s most celebrated musicians, young and old.

Sandi Thom is looking forward to her first Tiree gig: “I’m really excited and honoured to be part of the first Tiree Music Festival – I promise Tiree a rocking show!” Tickets are now sold out, but you may be able to buy at the gate!
