As the weather was at least going to be breezy with still that slight chill in the air the decision was made a few days before to hold the Diamond Jubilee Celebration Tea Party inside An Talla rather than outside.
The hall was decked out in balloons, flags and bunting, tables were laid for over 200 people in the style of a street party, with Union Jack flags tablecloths and napkins, and with the 50’s music, the party went with a swing.
After a delicious tea of sandwiches and cakes (including Josie’s home-made cream and strawberry scones), followed by jelly and ice cream, Jessie organised some of those traditional games that seem to have dropped away from our lifestyle. The right Royal Quiz had everyone thinking and there was a Royal Raffle and memorabilia to purchase. Margaret Jones cut the Jubilee cake and the young Beavers handed out over 40 potted plants to the older members of the party.
Rosemary, Pat, Rona, Jessie, Josie and Jackie would like to thank all of those people who helped to make the party happen (setting up of the hall, clearing up, shopping etc.), not least the Tiree Windfall fund who allocated funds. Tickets for the party were free and were way over subscribed. It was a pity that those who held tickets and did not attend on the day were not able to let us know as there were disappointed people who we had to turn away. What a great party it was!!
