New Spiral Staircase fitted

Well, we’re back again from Tiree after another (punishing) week of work! One of the major things that got done this week was the installation of the beautiful Sprial Staircase.

This was a SERIOUS piece of work to install! As you can see from the picture, the central pole had to be fitted in exactly the right position, drilled deep into the floor. The landing plate was fixed to the top of the stair, and the handrails were curved and welded on to each balustrade! Facings were placed around the stairwell, and we formed a curved piece of floor matching the curve of the stair, to provide more walking space upstairs.

Thanks to Seamus for welding at short notice and especially to Bill whose expertise at fitting this made it almost seamless! The staircase is powder coated brown so there are no paint marks and it fits in very well with the overall look of the cottage as you can see from the pictures in this post.

The facings around the stairwell (on the underside of the ceiling still need to be fitted and will finish this area). We got absolutely LOADS of work done this last week and have stacks of photos now ready to appear here each evening and be uploaded to the Cottage Photos page. We’ll be working again on the website throughout this weekend and back in Tiree again around mid May to finish everything. It’s now 4 weeks until our first paying guests, so exciting times ahead!
