Recycling on Tiree

All local residents on Tiree should now have received a letter from A&B Council explaining the new bins and arrangements for their collection week beginning 24th August. Struthan Cottage visitors should take a note of the new bin collection days (as this Council news changes the info currently in our welcome pack about bin collection).

standard240litrewheeliebinsA Blue Wheelie Bin is provided for cardboard and paper. Cartons, plastic bottles and cans can be recycled in the red bag within this bin. It’s uplifted every 2 weeks on a Tuesday around midday which alternates with your existing Green Bin. We’re in the process of replacing the small green bin we have with a larger one. In addition a dark grey bin will be provided for glass bottles and jars uplifted monthly. Phew! Confusing i know. We appreciate some visitors are only there on the island for a week, so basically the easy thing to remember is to put the 2 or 3 bins out at the side of the road on a Tuesday morning.  By recycling waste instead of sending it to landfill, you are helping save energy and reduce the risk of climate change to Tiree. Thanks.
