On my trip to Tiree last week, i also trimmed 100mm off the wooden shoerack. It now fits exactly into the space in the porch, rather than sitting out on the floor, now neat and tidy and out the way. This also freed up some space on the right hand side of the porch entrance for suitcases or even a pram/buggy.
