Well, this is a article we’ve been waiting for about 6 months to post! Last Summer we received a letter from Tiree Community Broadband saying Struthan Cottage was due to be upgraded with faster broadband, a welcome announcement for us, and for all our guests.
With the new receiver now installed on the porch wall, and new router installed, Struthan Cottage wi-fi is now 10 TIMES FASTER! Running on a speed test between 14-18 Mb/s, indeed, as I write this, its faster than home on the mainland!
There are two channels on the router too, meaning you can join another “struan” network, if the rest of your family is on the other one. This broadband upgrade has been much awaited and given “Whats the wifi like?” is one of the most common questions guests ask us when booking, we can safely say, its excellent for gaming, retrieving your emails, streaming Youtube videos, Netflix and of course surfing the web without frustration.
Given the remoteness of Tiree and logistics of getting broadband to the cottage, Tiree Community Broadband has come a long way in the last 10 years and we for one, certainly appreciate this vital service.
Wi-fi at Struthan Cottage is free for all our holiday guests.
