Our family have visited Tiree for longer than you may think! Way back in 1966, Our Gran Duncan wrote to a Mrs MacFadyen in Kenovay about hiring their bungalow for the week. The house they enquired about still sits at the top of the airport road and has since been renovated. It used to be yellow coloured in the 80s and 90s. Incredibly, here is the letter of reply gran received! There was a little “brochure” attached for the holiday house, both sides copied here. Interesting that it wasnt Argyll and Bute, but “Argyllshire” and boasted even back then of the sunshine it receives. Full Board was 25 shillings a day (about £1.25). The boat took 5 hours instead of 3 and only sailed on Monday, Wednesday and fridays TO Tiree, and then back again the following days on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays! No sailing to and back in 1 day! It was via MacBrayne, but the Caledonian part of that venture hadnt yet appeared. Flights were each day, even back then!
